Reporting to the Provost, the Dean of Student Affairs (Dean) is responsible for overseeing and supervising the IAIA Student Affairs Division departments, staff and operations including the Student Success Center, Admissions / Recruitment Office, Student Life and the Counseling Office. The Dean acts a liaison between students and IAIA administration and is responsible for leading committees and working collaboratively to develop policies and programs that enhance the IAIA student experience. The Dean hears student concerns and collaborates within and outside of their division to foster a positive and safe campus environment.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
- The IAIA Dean of Academic Affairs (Dean) provides strategic leadership, management and oversight of 12 key Student Affairs Division functions and budgets :
o Admissions and Recruitment
o Retention (Learning Lab; Early Alerts; Retention Program)
o Counseling Program / Elder in Residence
o ADA, Disability, and Community Connection Services
o Student Activities (Including the Fitness Center and Gym)
o Student Housing
o Student Transportation
o Student Emergency Aid
o Student Food Services (Including campus Pantries, Food Programs and campus cafeteria)
Writes and provides management for Student Affairs Related Grants and outside funding opportunities.Provides administrative oversite of all Student Affairs Division, workplans, programs and initiatives.Provides administrative oversight for all lead Student Affairs Division personnel.Provides administrative oversite of all Student Affairs Division budgets.Provides support and guidance to students and advocates for their needs.Develops student Affairs departments and programs to meet the changing needs of the IAIA student population.Works with the Academic Affairs Division staff, administration and student inclusive committees to develop and implement policies and procedures to support student success and wellbeing.Works with Academic Affairs Division, student support staff, counseling and appeal / hearing committees to address student conduct issues and to ensure a fair and equitable resolution process.Foster community by developing and leading student events including but not limited to community gatherings, powwows, celebrations / holidays, listening sessions, trainings, convocation and commencement.Works with Admission & Recruitment and Student Services staff to develop and implement admissions, enrollment, retention, persistence and completion activities and policies.Assist the Provost in the evaluation and assessment of student affairs, success and life department operations.Assists the Financial Aid Director, ensure compliance regarding Veteran Services Enrollment verification through VA Once federal system.Collaborate with the Institutional Research department to research, analyze, and develop regular reports on Institute enrollment and student characteristics.Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications department to create, implement, and evaluate marketing communications in support of student services programs.Serve as an administrative user of the Student Information System.Acts as PDSO for the Student Exchange and Visitor Program.Acts of primary contact for Campus Café contract.Acts as additional contact for campus counseling and wellness contracts.Serves on the Provost’ committee with the Dean of Academic AffairsServe on division and Institute-wide committees.Publicly represent IAIA on behalf of the Provost and President as requested.Requirements
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Must have master’s degree and at least 5 years’ experience in managing, evaluating and developing a student affairs program in a higher education environment. Must have demonstrated experience working with Students from a variety of backgrounds. Experience working with Indigenous community sand students highly preferred.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated experience, skill and knowledge in strategically leading and directing student support programs at the college level.Demonstrated ability to oversee, control, manage and monitor multiple department budgets.Direct hands-on knowledge and expertise of federal student financial aid policies.Demonstrated experience in effectively hiring, leading, developing, motivating and managing staff.Ability to interact constructively with local, regional, national and tribal personnel, agencies and organizations.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels and with all people and groups including but not limited to professional staff, faculty, student, alumni and parents.Ability to prepare and present senior-level presentations to a wide-range of key stakeholders.Ability to resolve challenges in a creative and constructive manner.Ability to adhere to appropriate standards of conduct and ethics, including but not limited to :o respect
