Overview

We are looking for a highly experienced Director of Engineering with a strong background in travel technology. This opportunity is for one of our clients in the travel tech industry. The ideal candidate will have built online booking engines and travel distribution platforms, as well as led high-performing engineering teams. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on architecting and scaling advanced B2B and B2C travel solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the technical roadmap for scalable, secure, and high-performance travel platforms.
  • Architect and develop online booking engines, CRM systems, eCommerce platforms, and supplier repositories.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team.
  • Modernize legacy systems and lead transformation initiatives using cloud-native and serverless technologies.
  • Collaborate with product, design, operations, and executive leadership to align technical execution with business goals.
  • Implement CI / CD pipelines, automation, observability, and DevOps best practices.
  • Ensure system scalability, availability, and security, including PCI compliance and secure API development.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years in leadership roles.
  • Proven expertise in travel technology, particularly with online booking engines and travel distribution platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with Laravel (PHP), React (Next.js), and AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, SQS, S3, RDS).
  • Strong understanding of API-first development, microservices, serverless architecture, and asynchronous processing.
  • Experience hiring, scaling, and mentoring engineering teams.

    • Preferred Skills

  • Experience in SaaS or startup environments in travel tech.
  • Familiarity with Plasmic CMS, Laravel Livewire, GraphQL, and advanced caching techniques.
  • Knowledge of AI, machine learning, LLMs, or blockchain technologies.
  • Expertise in SEO, Core Web Vitals, and front-end performance optimization.
